Why weight does not speed a fall

Pro-Tip. Heavier does not fall faster. A longer pendulum swings slower. A heavier bob does not matter.

Drop a heavy wrench and a light nut from the same height, and ignore the air. They speed up the same way and land together. Extra weight does not make the fall faster. A bigger drawing is not a faster object.

Throw one sideways and drop the other at the same instant. The sideways throw does not hold it up. They hit together. The thrown one only lands farther away.

A pendulum is a weight on a string or rod. A longer string takes longer to swing over and back. A heavier bob does not change that time. The extra mass pulls harder, and the string has to tug that extra mass just as hard, so the swing stays the same.

Worked example

Two pendulums are the same length. One bob weighs 1 lb and the other weighs 8 lb.

They swing in the same time. Shorten one string and that one swings sooner.
